Harriet joins Glenys for International Women's Day

HARRIET Harman MP, Leader of the House of Commons and Equality Secretary will join Wales Euro-MP Glenys Kinnock in Newport today for the annual International Women's Day dinner at the University of Wales, Newport.

They will join more than 400 women at the University's Caerleon Campus, including Rosemary Butler AM, Jessica Morden MP, Eluned Morgan MEP, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, Deputy Mayor of Newport and Deputy Mayoress Fabiola Berrettoni..

Harriet Harman will make a keynote speech during the event, when there will also be a candle lighting ceremony to highlight discrimination against women in various parts of the world.

The dinner, which has been an annual event in Newport for the last nine years, will also celebrate the achievements of women throughout the world.

Glenys Kinnock said:

"On International Women's Day we remember the millions of women across the word who remain marginalised and denied fundamental human rights because of their gender. We stand up for those women and we demand that governments and societies tackle the apartheid of gender as an urgent global priority."
