Euro-MP joins fight to save St Donats Arts Centre

14th April 2008

WALES Euro-MP Glenys Kinnock has joined calls for the Arts Council Wales (ACW) to save St Donats Arts Centre from closure.

The Labour MEP has written to ACW urging it to re-consider its decision to cut funding for the Centre.

GLENYS KINNOCK said:

"It is clear that the decision by the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) to withdraw its annual funding grant will prove fatal to St Donats Arts Centre.

"The Centre is a hugely popular venue, offering a plethora of arts events attracting over 53,000 visitors from Wales and abroad each year. Moreover, the centre hosts a wide range of educational workshops for young people from communities across South Wales - subjects ranging from theatre, storytelling, arts, crafts and dance, music and film. Its closure would be a real set-back for the arts and community education in Wales.

"In light of the independent panel's decision in support of the arts centre, I urge the Arts Council Wales to reconsider their decision to cut funding for St Donats."
